Minnesota Swarm News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The prize for the best rookie in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) is not going anywhere for at least another month. On Friday the league announced that Minnesota Swarm forward Logan Schuss was the recipient of Rookie of the Month honors for March, marking the second-straight occasion that Schuss was picked for the award.

"It is not by chance that Logan has been awarded this accreditation, it's through hard work," Swarm coach Joe Sullivan said of his burgeoning young forward. "Logan has adjusted to the league very well; we knew how good he would be, it was only a matter of time before he began having a direct impact on our team on and off the floor and he has done that to an excellent level."

The Ladner, British Columbia native followed up a February where he scored 23 points (11g, 12a) in five games with another 15 points (5g, 10a) in four games in the month of March. Schuss has continued to be a consistent contributor to the Swarm offense, tacking up four or more points in five of his last six outings.

A brief look at Schuss' stats shows why the NLL has placed him at the top of the league's rookie corps two months running. The 2013 No. 1 overall pick paces all first-year players in points (46), goals (21), power play goals (7), shots (141) and shots-on-goal (109), and is second in assists (25). His 55 loose balls also ranks fourth among all rookies. Schuss is additionally in the Top-20 of all NLL players in goals (19th), power play goals (8th), shots (15th) and shots on goal (9th).

On the Swarm roster Schuss leads all players in goals, and only trails franchise points leader F Callum Crawford (58 points) in overall scoring. Coach Sullivan claims that his star rookie's immediate success is a testament to his refusal to be satisfied with his game.

"He's listened to every critique we could provide him; he's a student of the game still, where he studies and studies the opponents and goaltenders he's going to face," Sullivan explained. "He's always trying to make himself better, so it's no surprise to us that Logan has all the accomplishments that he has this early in his career."

The Swarm need Schuss to maintain his high level of play as they enter the home stretch of the 2014 regular season desperate to find a way out of the East Division basement. Minnesota meets the Rochester Knighthawks this weekend for a critical home-and-home series, with the opener coming at Xcel Energy Center on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. CT before wrapping up the weekend in Rochester on Saturday.

However, regardless of how the rest of the season shapes out, Sullivan is overjoyed that Schuss' contributions to the Swarm are just getting started.

"He's been everything we could hope for, both as a first round draft pick and as a person," Sullivan said. "Look for him to be a figurehead of the Minnesota Swarm for years to come."
