Swarm Signs Defenseman Josh Funk

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill today announced the National Lacrosse League (NLL) team has signed free agent defenseman Josh Funk to a one-year contract and placed defenseman Riley Kemp on the Injured Reserve List.

Funk, 22 (4/5/86), collected a career-high seven goals and 37 ground balls in 17 matches during his senior season at Ohio State University in 2008 and shared Team MVP honors with Swarm draft pick Kevin Buchanan. The 6-foot, 197-pound native of Poolesville, Maryland recorded 18 points (13-5=18) and 82 grounds ball in 55 games during his collegiate career. Funk was also named to the 2007 All-GWLL Second Team and was named an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2008 NLL Entry Draft by the Chicago Shamrox. Funk will wear jersey #5 with the Swarm.

Kemp appeared in the Swarm's first game of the season at Portland after missing the entire 2008 season due to injury but suffered a left knee injury Jan. 23.

Minnesota plays at the Calgary Roughnecks Friday at 8:30 p.m. and hosts the Colorado Mammoth Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
