Sutton Ready To Make Professional Return To Sacramento
Stockton, CA - Head Coach Antonio Sutton and his California Cougars (2-1) continue their month long home stand this Saturday night in Sacramento and Sunday evening in Turlock. The defending Professional Arena Soccer League champion Cougars host the Wenatchee Fire FC in Sacramento at Estadio Azteca Sports Arena on Saturday at 7:00 PM, and a United States Arena Soccer Open Cup Tournament opponent at Turlock Indoor Soccer on Sunday at 4:00 PM.
Saturday's match marks Sutton's return to Sacramento as a professional. Sutton scored 66 goals, had 18 assists and totaled 53 blocks in 91 games for the Sacramento Knights between 1997 and 2001. Sutton netted 12 goals and added three assists for 15 points during Sacramento's championship run in 1999. He had one goal during the World Indoor Soccer League championship match versus Dallas at ARCO Arena in 1999. The Knights played at ARCO Arena between 1993 and 2001.
"It's going to be great to have a chance to play in the area again," said Sutton about his professional return to Sacramento. "Mr. Arturo Ramos and the people at Estadio Azteca have been great to work with, and everyone has been very supportive about us coming to their building."

California earned their second regular season win last Sunday at Turlock Indoor Soccer. They defeated the Denver Dynamite 9-8, and improved to 3-1 overall this year. Coach Sutton played in the match and had two blocks for the Cougars. His team fell behind early, and had to rally for the 9-8 win.
"I'm not too worried about our slow start in the match," commented Sutton. "They had some awkward goals early, including one that deflected off a defender on a free kick. Their luck helped give them some motivation in the game. I'm happy that our boys rallied and came out with the win."
California's opponent on Sunday will be determined during the qualifying round of the United States Arena Soccer Open Cup Tournament on Saturday at Turlock Indoor Soccer.
The tournament is in its second year, and is the nation's largest professional and amateur arena tournament. The qualifying round teams are amateur clubs attempting to earn the right to face teams from the PASL-Pro.
Any US team, pro or amateur can enter the US Open. Last year the St. Louis Illusion beat the Detroit Waza Flo Pro 8-3 in the final to win the first ever tournament. Like the outdoor Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the US Arena Open is conducted as an in-season tournament, separate from the league championships.
