Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release
The Surprise Fightin' Falcons of the Golden Baseball League announced their name and revealed their logo Friday March 18th to a crowd of over 600 at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona.
The reveal was part of the annual banquet to kick off the 2005 Luke Days.
Out of the multiple suggestions for Falcons, there was only one person to submit Fightin' Falcons. This was 12 year old Alex Gleason of Surprise. Alex joined Field Manager Ozzie Virgil Jr. and Surprise City Councilman "Doc" Sullivan in the unveiling of the logo to the crowd.
"This is the ultimate," said Sullivan. "It's a good fit with the city (of Surprise) and the league and the other teams involved. The league and the team bring excitement and affordable family activity to our community."
Alex being the winner of the "Name the Team" contest presented by Safeway won $500. He has graciously donated the prize money to "Wounded Warriors." Alex will also receive season tickets.
The Fightin' Falcons kick off their inaugural season on May 26th at 7:05 PM at Surprise Stadium.
