Mississippi Surge News Release
Reid Edmondson scored twice, and defenseman B.J. Crum had three assists for the Mississippi Surge, getting them back in the win column with a 5-2 win over the Fayetteville FireAntz Saturday night in Fayettevile, NC. The victory ended a six game winless streak for the Surge, however three of those losses happened in overtime.
It didn't take long for the Surge to get in control of the game, as Edmondson scored just 44 seconds into the game as the Surge never trailed. Less than three minutes later, Joe Harcharik scored his first goal, in only his third game with the Surge to give for a 2-0 lead, which is the way the first period ended.
As they did in the first period, the Surge struck quickly in the second. Kyle Kudroch scored at 2:23 to give the Surge a 3-0 lead. Defeneseman Nicholas Kuqali stretched that to 4-0 exactly two minutes later. The four goals in the first 24 and a half minutes were enough to chase Fayetteville starting goaltender Marco Emond from the game. He was replaced by Kyle Rank.
Edmondson got his second goal of the night, midway through the second period, boosting the Surge to a 5-0 lead. But only 11 seconds later, Ben Conti was finally able to sneak the puck past Surge goaltender Dan Clarke to get Fayetteville on the scoreboard. Conti got his second goal of the night, on a power play with 5:57 to go. Even though the teams scored in bunches and quickly through the game, Conti's second goal rounded out the scoring as the teams battled through a scoreless third period.
Clarke picked up his seventh victory of the season, turning aside 19 of the 21 shots he faced.
The same two teams play Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Fayetteville.
