Surge Salutes Military Troops
(3-3-0, 6 Pts Tied for Fourth Place)
Military Salute: The Mississippi Surge has another full weekend of home games, taking on the Pensacola Ice Flyers Friday and Saturday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Each game starts at 7:05 p.m. With Friday being Veterans' Day the Surge dedicates this weekend to its military salute weekend.
Split Decision: The Surge split its two home games last weekend, shutting out the Mississippi RiverKings in the first ever meeting between the two teams, 3-0 on Friday night. On Saturday, the Surge dropped a 3-2 decision to the Louisiana IceGators.
Putting Up 0's: Louisiana's first goal on Saturday night ended a shutout string by the Surge of 147:52.
Real Winner: Adam Krug scored the first goal of the game for the Surge on Friday, which proved to be the game winning goal. He had the game winner in two straight games. Krug is tied for the SPHL lead with his two game winning goals.
Streaking: Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn and Rob Campbell each had an assist Saturday night, stretching their point streaks to five games. Versteeg-Lytwyn is the Surge's leading scorer with three goals and four assists, all coming in the last five games. Campbell has a goal and four assists in his five game streak.
Nick Knack: Goaltender Nick Eno became the second goaltender in Surge history to turn in back-to-back shutouts when he blanked Mississippi. He also shutout Huntsville in the home opener October 28th. Dan Earles had consecutive shutouts for the Surge in December of 2010.
