Surge to Face Pensacola

March 24, 2013 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi Surge News Release

For the second straight season, the Mississippi Surge will square off against the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the quarter-finals of the Southern Professional Hockey League President's Cup playoffs.

The Surge had to wait a day after its season ending 4-2 win over Pensacola to know which team it would face in the opening round. Pensacola defeated Lousiana 5-1 Sunday afternoon to finish in third place and set up the match up with the Surge. Pensacola's win also means that the Fayetteville FireAntz win the league regular season championship.

The Surge finished the regular season in sixth place and play third place Pensacola. All rounds in the SPHL playoffs are best of three series. The other first round pairings are Fayetteville against Huntsville; Louisiana against the Mississippi RiverKings; and Knoxville against Columbus. The schedule for the first round series has not yet been determined. Pensacola has the home ice advantage in the series with the Surge.

Playoff tickets for the Surge are available at all Ticketmaster outlets and the Mississippi Coast Coliseum box office. For more information, contact the Surge at 228-594-3800.
