Bloomington, IL - The Mississippi Surge beat the Bloomington Thunder 6 - 0 in the finale of a three game series in Bloomington. Kyle Kudroch and Mark Thorburn had a pair of goals in the win, and net minder Mathieu Dugas saved 37 of 38 shots.
In an action packed opening period, it took less than three minutes for Luke Greiner to score the Mississippi Surge's first goal, slapping the puck from behind Bloomington's net. Burke Gallimore responded with hard slapshot that echoed past the Surge defense.
Kyle Kudroch scored twice more for the Surge, both on a power play. The Surge carried their first period success into the second period, with Mark Thorburn scoring twice, followed by a goal from Joe Tolles at the end of the period. Tommy Lange remarked on the weekend as a whole, "Friday was a reality checked when we play individual hockey, not the team game which we did yesterday and today. We kept it simple and played the team's systems."
Following a scoreless third, the Surge skated off the ice after a hard fought two win weekend.
"We came out and did what we had to do to win," said Surge Head Coach Jeff Bes after the win, "By executing the game plan, we put the on their heels. We also capitalized on out play opportunities. I am very proud of the way the team responded this weekend after the game on friday night."
The Surge will return home tomorrow, only to head to Pensacola on Tuesday.
