Mississippi Surge News Release
Tim Kerr, Owner of the Mississippi Surge Hockey Team, has announced a fan survey to determine if the team will change its name.
In two recent town hall meetings, fans brought up the idea of a name change and Kerr said he would explore it. He said a widespread fan survey on the issue will allow everyone the chance to express an opinion.
"This is the Mississippi Gulf Coast's hockey team and if the fans want a change, I'm all for it. So I am putting the challenge out to the fans to send in their suggestions," Kerr said. "We want a name that is reflective of where we live, something that shows who we are as a community, a name we can be proud of."
He explained that the former name of the team, The Mississippi Seawolves, is now owned by the ECHL, and is no longer available to use. "I am excited to see what kinds of ideas our fans have," Kerr said. "They certainly are passionate about their team and that's why I'm asking them for their help once again."
To enter ideas, as well as any thoughts and comments fans can go to www.mssurge.com, and click on the link that says "Team Name Survey." The survey will run through June 29. There is no limit to the number of name suggestions fans can submit.
The Surge team store is holding a major merchandise sale right now. The store is open for business Monday through Friday at the Coast Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Season tickets for the 2012-13 Surge season are available by calling the Surge at 228-287-PUCK (7825). More information is also available at www.mssurge.com.
