Surge Edge RiverHawks In Overtime To Take 2-0 Lead

Augusta RiverHawks News Release
Mississippi Surge forward Adam Bartholomy scored mid-way through the overtime period to give the Surge a 4-3 victory over the Augusta RiverHawks Wednesday night in Biloxi, MS. The win gives the Surge a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Southern Professional Hockey League President's Cup Final series.
The loss wasted a fantastic performance from RiverHawks' goaltender Peter Skoggard who made 51 saves in his first start in the President's Cup Finals. Despite the solid performance, it is Skoggard's first loss in a RiverHawks' uniform, dating back to the regular season.
A scoreless first period gave way to an extremely quick Surge goal, scoring just 46 seconds into the second period, as Rusty Masters fired home his fourth goal of the playoffs.
However, the RiverHawks would charge back with three goals before the end of the first period. Branden Kosolofsky, Egor Mironov, and Matt Auffrey each beat Surge goaltender Bill Zaniboni, giving their team a commanding lead headed into the second period.
The third period was all Surge, as they would tie the game quickly. First, Jason Beeman scored on the power play, followed by Tuesday night's hero Matt Zultek with the tying goal. Despite a lopsided shot advantage, Skoggard would manage to shut the Surge down for the remainder of regulation to send the game into overtime.
The series now turns to Augusta and the James Brown Arena with Game Three being played Friday, April 15th. If the RiverHawks win to extend the series, Game Four will also be at the James Brown Arena Saturday, April 16th, with the fifth and final game returning to Biloxi. The puck will drop for games played in Augusta at 7:30pm. Fans can find out all the information on tickets at www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645 or 1-877-4AUG-TIX.
