The Mississippi Surge has now clinched its fourth straight appearance in the Southern Professional Hockey League playoffs.
In fact, four is a prominent number right now for the Surge. In four years in the SPHL, the Surge has never mssed the playoffs. The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Augusta RiverHawks, 4-2 Sunday to secure the fourth appearance.
The Surge has four games left in the regular season with three of those at home. They host the Mississippi RiverKings Friday March 15th (St. Patrick's game worn jerseys to be auctioned after the game); visit the RiverKings Sunday March 17th; host the Louisiana IceGators Friday March 22nd (military appreciation night); and conclude the regular season hosting the Pensacola Ice Flyers Saturday March 23rd (fan appreciation night with multiple fan giveaways).
Each of the three rounds of the SPHL playoffs is a best-of-three series. The Surge's first round playoff opponent and schedule is yet to be determined. The first round pairings will be based on the final regular season standings with 1 vs. 8; 2 vs. 7; 3 vs. 6; and 4 vs. 5.
