Southern California Surf News Release
ANAHEIM, Ca -- The Southern California Surf of the American Basketball Association ("ABA") have announced the signing of former Phoenix Suns star Oliver Miller. The Surf expect the 6'10", 345 lbs. center to provide rebounding, low-post scoring, and leadership. Miller's leadership abilities will certainly be an asset as the playoffs grow near.
An 8-year NBA veteran with the Suns, Raptors, Mavericks, and Kings, Miller has appeared in over 41 playoff games, helping the Suns reach the NBA finals in 1993. As the Toronto Raptors' staring center in 1995-96, Miller was one of only five players in the NBA to post more than 100 points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.
"Oliver is a proven winner and a rebounding machine," states the Surf GM Kirk Watanabe. "He is going to help solidify our post defense and hopefully provide some scoring in the paint."
Most recently, Miller has been averaging a double-double (16.1 ppg and 15.1 rpg) for the CBA's Gary Steelheads. In his last game, Miller recorded 20 points, 23 rebounds, and 10 assists against the Rockford Lightning.
In 1992, Miller led the University of Arkansas to the NCAA National Championship. Miller has been known throughout his career as an incredibly efficient player, rarely shooting below 50-percent from the field. In his junior season at Arkansas he shot an astounding 70-percent.
