Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release
SURPRISE, Ariz. (Aug. 26, 2005) - The Surprise Fightin' Falcons watched their playoff hopes go up in smoke Friday night, while the San Diego Surf Dawgs clinched their own spot in the postseason.
Rickey Henderson went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs to lead the Surf Dawgs to a 12-3 rout in front of a crowd of 1,327 at Surprise Stadium. With the victory, the Surf Dawgs wrapped up the first California Division crown. Surprise, meanwhile, had its playoff hopes all but dashed completely with the loss.
Henderson ripped up the Falcons for a solo homer in the second and a two-run double in a four-run seventh inning that put the game out of reach. Surprise starter Chris Russ lasted only 3-2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits. Reliever Paul Buchan did not fare much better, giving up five runs in 1-1/3 innings.
Cody Clark drove in four runs for the Surf Dawgs, which improved to 51-36. Desi Wilson went 0-for-2 in his bid to finish the season with a .400 batting average. He ended the night with a .411 average with three games to go.
The Falcons (43-44) and Surf Dawgs will play a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch of the first game is 6:05 p.m. Between games, Washington Mutual Bank will sponsor a Charity Cash Scramble to benefit Homeward Bound (Families In Chaos) and the 100 Club.
