Super Bowl Winning Barnett Joins Commandos

November 3, 2011 - Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL)
Cincinnati Commandos News Release

CINCINNATI, OH - As if the collection of rings from claiming the last two league championships aren't enough, the Cincinnati Commandos are adding a Super Bowl ring to its repertoire. Well, sort of.

The Commandos have announced the signing of cornerback Darren Barnett, who earned a Super Bowl ring after the New York Giants won Super Bowl XLII. He is the second player from that Giants team to play in the UIFL, joining current league commissioner Jared Lorenzen.

"Talk about finding a diamond in the rough!," said head coach Billy Back. "Darren Barnett came into the workout, quiet, ran a 4.3, covered everyone and didn't mention he was a Super Bowl Champion until after when I told him we were going to sign him. He is a local product that adds size and speed to our secondary, that's already loaded."

Barnett signed with Michigan State University following a stellar career at Princeton High School. He would transfer to Missouri Southern State where he was named 2004 First-team All-Gateway Conference, and joined the Giants in 2007 as an undrafted free agent. He also played for the Odessa Roughnecks in the Indoor Football League (IFL).

The Cincinnati Commandos are the longest-tenured professional indoor football team ever in the city of Cincinnati. Winners of back-to-back league championships, the Commandos will be playing their first season in the Ultimate Indoor Football League. Season tickets are currently on sale via the Cincinnati Gardens box office or thru Ticketmaster.
