Suns Blast Barons for Eighth Consecutive Victory

Jacksonville, Fla. - Kevin Randel went three-for-four with a homerun and six RBI leading the Jacksonville Suns (57-45, 22-10) to an eighth consec utive victory, an 11-4 win over the Birmingham Barons (67-34, 19-13) in front of 5,398 Tuesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns starter Aaron Thompson (5-9) picked up the victory, giving up only three runs in the fifth inning and nine total hits with three strikeouts. Barons starter Justin Cassel (3-2) fell in the loss, charged with six runs and nine hits over six innings.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-out, two-run homerun from Lorenzo Scott for a 2-0 score. The Suns increased the lead in the fourth inning as Kevin Randel belted a three-run homerun to open a 5-0 lead.

Birmingham scattered five hits over the first four innings against Thompson, but finally got on the board in the fifth inning=2 0on a C.J. Retherford doubled with two out for a 5-1 score. Two batters later, David Cook belted his 18th homerun of the season, a two-run shot to cut the Suns lead to 5-3.

Jacksonville built the lead again in the sixth inning as Kevin Randel knocked in Scott Cousins with an infield single for a 6-3 Suns lead.

The Suns used a five-run seventh inning while sending all nine hitters to the plate to put the game out of reach. Logan Morrison knocked in the first run with a bases loaded infield hit. An error from Barons second baseman C.J. Retherford brought in another run for an 8-3 lead. Lee Mitchell next hit a sacrifice fly to right field, increasing the lead to 9-3. Kevin Randel capped off the inning with a two-run double for the 11-3 score.

Birmingham finished the scoring in the eighth inning on a Christian Martinez sacrifice fly for an 11-4 final.
