Birmingham Barons News Release
HOOVER - Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg will bring his Tennessee Smokies to Regions Park on Thursday, August 6 for a five-game series. Due to a high demand of media requests, Sandberg will hold a press conference in front of the Smokies' dugout prior to the August 6 contest at 5:00 PM. This will be the only time during the series that the Smokies' manager will be made available to the media. This press conference is restricted to credentialed media only. Any media members seeking autographs will be removed from the press conference. Sandberg, in his first year with the Smokies, is the first Hall of Famer to manage a Southern League team. The Cubs legend spent the past two seasons as the manager for the Peoria Chiefs, the Cubs Single A affiliate in the Midwest League. The Barons won the First-Half South Division Championship and will open the playoffs at Regions Park on Thursday, September 10 with the game two scheduled for Friday, September 11. Game one will feature a Thirsty Thursday promotion with game two featuring post-game fireworks. Tickets are available online, over the phone or in-person at the Regions Park Box Office. -
