SunFire Scores 50 in Shutout Rout

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego SunFire set a franchise record by scoring 50 points against the Knighthawks (1-6), the highest point total in the team's three-year history, winning 50-0 Saturday night at La Jolla High School Stadium. Check below for the complete Conference standings.

San Diego, which improved to 3-4 in WPFL play, notched its first shutout of the season. The SunFire defense held Arizona to just 28 total yards rushing, while the offense was only forced to punt the ball just once.

San Diego scored in every quarter. The first three tallies were courtesy of SunFire MVP candidate running back Railene Ritzberg on five, 72 and two-yard touchdown runs. Railene had 21 carries for a impressive total of 242 yards rushing. Wide receiver and League MVP candidate Carmen Cruz scored on touchdown passes from Aisha Ruffo of 43, 13 and 31 yards respectively. The 43-yard touchdown was the highlight of the evening. Cruz was hit on a slant by Ruffo and broke six tackles to reach paydirt. Angie Corinne scored the team's final touchdown on a reverse in the fourth quarter.

NEXT GAME - The SunFire will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Amazons on October 4, 7:05 p.m.

LAST MEETING – In San Diego, the SunFire beat the Amazons 20-12.

SUPER GIRL - Railene Ritzberg - "Rai" had 21 carries for 242 yards and three touchdowns and was named the Offensive Player of the Game.

OH LINE!! - #76 Desiree Luli, #98 Mindy Luli, #71 Lisa "Big White" Sigmund, #99 Michelle "Big Red" Bryant, #97 Danielle Weber and #92 Monique Powless - Thanks to the best SunFire O-Line yet, through seven games Ritzberg is just shy of 1000 yards rushing.

SUNFIRE STAR -Team Captain and thee-time All-Star Carmen Cruz had five receptions for 105 yards and three TD's.

ROOKIE WATCH - LB Marissa Wilson led all defenders with 13 tackles earning her Defensive Player of the Game honors. LB Wendy Hanlon had 7 tackles, and 1 fumble recovery.

SUNFIRE INTERCEPTIONS - #27 Faith Nealy, #46 Marci Tarpy and #30 Shannon Ten Broeck all notched INT's Saturday night.
