Sundogs Lose Heartbreaker against Wichita, 4-3

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs lost a heartbreaker against the Wichita Thunder Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center in front of 3,341 fans. The game was forced into overtime where the final score was 4-3.

The Arizona Sundogs didn't make it easy for the Thunder during the opening round of the playoffs with three of the four games being forced into overtime. Wichita struck first tonight but it didn't go unanswered by Arizona. 9:17 into the first period and Greger Hanson scored while playing four-on-four hockey after Cody Purves and Les Reaney were each issued two minute minors. Less than three minutes later, Purves scored with assist from Ron Meyers.

The second and third period mirrored the opening frame with both team collecting a goal each period. Hanson tallied his second goal of the evening just over five minutes into the period. Johan Ryd chipped the puck past Torrie Jung for Arizona's second goal. Kip Brennan and Mario Larocque each were given the assists. Halfway through the third period Kevin Young scored on the power play for Wichita's third goal. Arizona's Ryd answered back with his own power play goal after Reaney was called for hooking. Purves and Larocque picked up the assists and earned their second point of the evening.

Reaney scored Wichita's game winning goal four minutes into sudden death overtime while on the power play when Matt McCready was accessed two minutes for holding.

David Brown took the loss for the Sundogs making 34 saves. Arizona was outshot 38-30. The Sundogs were 2-6 on the power play and Wichita was 3-7 on the power play.
