Sundogs Drop Fifth Straight

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs dropped their fifth straight game in a 4-3 loss Sunday night against the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center, though not for a lack of effort. The Sundogs went into the game chomping at the bit looking to break their losing skid and came up just short of their intentions.
The first period against the Tulsa Oilers was a busy one with 10 offenses issued resulting in 44 penalty minutes between both teams. Again, Arizona found their selves on an early power play opportunity after Blair Macaulay was called for a two minute high sticking minor 33 seconds in the game. Bryan Cameron put the Sundogs on the board 4:13 into the period with a slapper on Oiler's Shane Madolora . Jordan Clendenning and Travis Ouellette each received the assists. Oilers, Kyle Bochek and Sundogs Tom Maxwell, recently activated from injury reserve, each were sent to the box after receiving a matching, five minute fighting major and Maxwell with an additional four minute double-minor for roughing. Jake Obermeyer and Garrett Clarke each received a 10-minute misconduct resulting in Arizona's four minute penalty kill. The Oilers easily capitalized on their power play when Macaulay slid the puck under Andrew Engelage for their first goal of the night, 11:40 into the frame.
Much of the same continued in the second with another 44 penalty minutes being issued. Arizona's Alex Tuckerman accumulated four offenses totaling 24 minutes including a game misconduct for abuse of officials, 12:42 into the period. His penalties would result in the Oilers second four minute power play that the Sundogs were able to successfully kill off. Despite the onset of penalties Tulsa was able to notch their second goal 15 seconds into the second, handing them the lead which they hung on to after 40 minutes of play.
Both teams entered the final period, eager to come out on top and Arizona registered 13 shots on goal in the third. Cameron equalized the game 3:18 in the period with assists from Andrew Eastman and Michael Trebish . Tulsa's Drew Fisher tallied a goal 13:36 into the frame when he lifted the puck past the blocker side of Engelage and Obermeyer came in with the game winner 17:51 remaining in regulation. With 1:39 left in the period Ouellette posted Arizona's third goal and closed the deficit giving the Sundogs the chance to create a 6-on-5 opportunity after Sundogs coach Kevin Colley elected to pull Engelage giving them the man-advantage. Despite the hustle set forth in the remaining seconds the Oilers were able to hold off the Sundogs.
Engelage took the loss for the Sundogs making 18 saves. Arizona outshot Tulsa 33-22. Each team received six power play opportunities and the Oilers were the only one to take the advantage with one power play goal. 23 offenses were issued tonight resulting in 102 minutes served for both teams.
The Sundogs face the Missouri Mavericks on Tuesday after playing three games in three days in two different states. Arizona will continue the road trip after Missouri for a pair against the Denver Cutthroats before returning to Prescott Valley.
