Sundogs Bury Mallards in 3-2 Shootout Win

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs buried the Quad City Mallards in a 3-2 shootout win Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center. Sundogs team captain Jason Morgan registered two goals and Johan Ryd collected the game winning goal.

Three periods, including overtime weren't enough tonight as the Mallards forced overtime tying the game 8:24 into the final frame. Johan Ryd registered the game winning goal in the shootout awarding the Sundogs their fourth consecutive win this season.

Arizona's Jason Morgan scored first with a rebound shot 6:29 into the first period. Johan Ryd and Alex Tuckerman each registered the assists. 2:29 later, Morgan scored a shorthanded goal, his second of the night after Mike Trebish was issued two minutes for interference. Quad City posted their first of two goals 5:57 into the second with a goal from Matt Duffy. The Sundogs received a brief five-on-three man advantage after the Mallards' Darren McMillan was given two minutes for elbowing and Vladimir Nikiforov was given two for high sticking which Arizona was unable to convert.

The Sundogs maintained their lead heading into the third period until Mike Stinziani lit the lamp scoring on the power play for the Mallards, knotting the game.

Andrew Engelage, current Oakley CHL Goalie of the Week recipient was awarded the shootout win, blocking 19 shots. The Sundogs outshot the Mallards 32-21. Arizona was 0-5 on the power play and Quad City was 1-7.

The two teams will close out their two-game set in Prescott Valley in conjunction with the Arizona Sundogs third annual adopt-a-dog auction, immediately following their game against the Quad City Mallards.
