Sunday Showdown in the Jungle, Trops Host Comets in Key Division Battle
February 19, 2023 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Florida Tropics SC News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Florida Tropics will host the Kansas City Comets in what is shaping up to be a huge showdown game in the Major Arena Soccer League's Eastern Division Sunday at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland as the two hook up for the second of three meetings this year.
It's a game that could be pivotal for the Tropics, who come in having lost five of their last six games - four of those on a recent five game road trip that ended last weekend. Kansas City and the Comets have both played 15 games so far this season, out of 24 regular season contests, and both have 23 points, four behind the Milwaukee Wave who have also played two less games than the Comets or Tropics.
In addition, it marks the return of Zach Reget, who was traded to the Comets two weeks after Florida sent he and Taylor Walter Bond to the Harrisburg Heat for Rafa Araujo. The Comets defeated Florida last weekend, 12-7, and Reget had five goals in the game for KC.
Reget is Kansas City's leading goal scorer with 20 - 13 of which came with Florida - John Sosa and Lucas Sousa each have 25 points. Florida is led by Ricardo Carvalho with 14 goals and 9 assist for 23 points.
After Sunday, the Tropics will stay home and host the Tacoma Stars next Sunday, February 26 at 3:05 p.m., before another four-game road trip that includes games in Milwaukee (March 4), Utica (March 12), Kansas City again (March 18) and St. Louis (March 19). Florida will conclude the regular season with three games in a row in Lakeland.
Tickets for all home games are available starting at just $7 per game by calling the arena box office at 863-834-8111. Although tickets are also available online at www.rpfundingcenter.com, service fees are significantly higher through Ticketmaster as opposed to calling the box office directly. Tickets are also available on game day at the box office.
