California Sunbirds News Release
Stockton, Calif. â The California Sunbirds fell 1-0 to the visiting Arizona Heat on Sunday, June 20, dropping the opening game of their three game home stand. With the loss the Sunbirds fall to 4-11 on the season.
Despite getting another good outing out of their starting pitching, the Sunbirds were unable to muster any offensive support. California's best chance of the night came in the sixth inning when they got a leadoff double from Kellyn Tate, but then proceeded to go down in order leaving her stranded.
Arizona did not fair much better throughout the game as they were only able to knock out three hits on the night, however they were able to get the timelier hits, producing the winning run in the top of the seventh with two outs. With runners on the corners Nancy Evans singled to right center driving in the lone run of the game. Evans finished the game going 2-for-3.
The Sunbirds are back in action tomorrow, Monday, June 21, as they continue their three game series versus the Heat.
