August 2, 2005 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
(Harrisburg, Pa., August 2, 2005) -United Soccer Leagues has announced that Harrisburg City Islanders midfielder Sumed Ibrahim has been named the USL Second Division Player of the Week for Week 15. Midfielder Steve Fisher and defender Adam Schultz accompany Sumed on the latest Team of the Week. All three posted fine performances as Harrisburg clinched a playoff berth with wins on Wednesday, July 27 (5-2 over Long Island), and Saturday, July 30 (7-0 in Northern Virginia).
Sumed, 24, helped lead Harrisburg's offensive onslaught with four goals. The Ghana native was on fire in a 5-2 win over Long Island last Wednesday, recording the first hat trick in team history in a 27-minute span in the first half. Sumed, the 20th overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, followed up with another goal in a 7-0 win at Northern Virginia on Saturday. He now ranks sixth in the league with 21 points and is tied for fifth with nine goals.
Fisher was also highly productive. The second-year player out of Hershey notched two assists against Long Island and pocketed a pair of scores against the Royals. In only 772 minutes this year, the 23-year-old has scored five goals and 13 points, surpassing his rookie totals in both categories.
Schultz makes his first appearance on the Team of the Week in 2005 after a pair of solid defensive outings. Sliding into the central defense in place of the injured J.T. Dorsey, Schultz was part of a defense that yielded only seven combined shots to the Rough Riders and Royals.
Harrisburg (10-3-5, 35 points) has now placed 14 different players on the Team of the Week this season. Sumed is the fifth City Islander to earn Player of the Week honors in 2005, joining Bryan Hill, Shane Crawford, Matt Tanzini, and Chad Severs.
