Sueno MLS Winner to be Announced Sunday, March 25
March 21, 2007 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (Wednesday, March 21, 2007) - It started in mid-February with 2,000 participants from across the U.S. and around the world. Now, Sueño MLS: Chivas USA Wants You! - the nationally televised quest to find the most talented young soccer player to play for Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, has come down to its final few days, with five players still aspiring to receive an invitation to join Chivas USA.
This Sunday, March 25, one standout will be crowned the winner of Sueño MLS during Univision's popular weekly sports show, República Deportiva, which has been following the month-long search in a unique "reality show within a show" format. The show airs at noon in the Eastern time zone and 1 p.m. PT.
In addition to the title of Sueño MLS champion, and a spot with Chivas USA's full 28-man roster or U-19 team, the winner will be offered adidas equipment and a special family ticket package to Chivas USA's home games at The Home Depot Center
Here is a recap of the five finalists:
Aldo Iñiguez 20 GK Guadalajara, MEX
Iñiguez is the only finalist invited to train with Chivas USA's 28-man roster, and has been training at The Home Depot Center since last week. Currently residing in San Fernando, CA, his wife and child await in Mexico for the results of the competition.
Jorge Flores 17 F Anaheim, CA
A senior at Anaheim HS, this mercurial 17-year old left winger risked his job to try out for Sueño MLS. He has been training with the Chivas USA Under-19 team in Bell Gardens, CA, where he joins his second cousin, Abraham GarcÃa, whom he met for the first time during the Sueño MLS tryouts. Flores was the only Sueño MLS player to score in the games vs. the Chivas USA Under-19 team at the Home Depot Center. He also scored in the first day of his two week trial with the team.
Abraham GarcÃa 17 M Santa Barbara, CA
Garcia, a senior at San Marcos HS, joined his cousin Flores as one of the four finalists training with the Chivas USA Under-19 squad. Last Wednesday the creative midfielder scored in the Chivas USA U-19's game against the Arsenal FC U-18's, the three-time USYSA national champions, at the Bell Gardens Sports Center.
Carlos Ruiz 18 M Lawndale, CA
Born in Peru, this former West Torrance HS (06) student has proven to be a strong option on the left, after training stint in Uruguay with first division side Danubio. However, just when he was slated to start at left back vs. Arsenal, a groin injury sidelined him. Will Ruiz recover in time?
Miguel Sánchez 18 M Inglewood, CA
A recent graduate of Inglewood HS ('06), Sanchez has also been training with Chivas USA's Under-19 team, looking solid in both midfield and defense. He has proven a physical presence both centrally and on the right.
