Woodlands Strykers News Release
The Woodlands, TX - The Strykers scored seven runs in the first two innings and were able to hold off a late comeback attempt to secure an 8-7 win over the first-place Brazos Valley Bombers.
The Strykers started the game off hot, scoring six runs and knocking out the Bombers starting pitcher before he could record an out. Braden Zarbnisky led off the game with a single and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and scored on a Ryan Wadkins hit. An Ivan Vera single would advance Wadkins and Colton Parrish would knock in Wadkins on another single. Nkosi Djehuti-Mes would double in Vera to make it 3-0. A wild pitch would score Parrish and Djehuti-Mes would score off of Josh Russell's double play. The Strykers batted around and Zarbnisky made it 6-0 with his second hit of the inning.
The Bombers would not go down quietly and relief pitcher Liam Roden entered the game in the bottom of the 7th with bases loaded and one out as the home team was a run away from tying the game. Roden would get out of the jam, getting two Bomber hitters to fly out to end the inning. Roden would hold the Bombers scoreless for the final two innings, striking out two and picking up his first save of the year.
The Woodlands will go for the 2-game sweep of the Bombers tomorrow at 7:05. The next home game will be on Tuesday, June 28th, as they play host to the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
