Strykers Fall to Cane Cutters; Now Have All Star Break

The Woodlands Strykers concluded their two game homestand against the Acadiana Cane Cutters tonight at Strykers Stadium. The two teams traded runs early before the Cane Cutters pulled away for a 9-5 win. The entire Texas Collegiate League will now pause for the annual All Star Break with the game taking place Tuesday night in Kilgore.

The Strykers scored five runs on the night. Two of the runs came in the second inning. Brian Smith would come to bat and draw a walk. He would then score on a RBI double by Ricky Sanchez. Sanchez would come to the plate on a RBI double by Conner Kalisky. The other three runs would come in the sixth inning. After Kevin Santana grounded out for the first out of the inning, Dirk Masters came to the plate and drew a walk he would make his way to third on a pass ball and wild pitch and then come home on another pass ball with Smith at the plate. Smith would then draw a walk. Sanchez came up after Smith and hit a single. Both Smith and Sanchez would score on a pinch hit RBI double by Dalton Perry.

Chase McDowell made another start on the mound tonight for the Strykers. The RIce Owl would pitch six innings, giving up two earned runs and strike out four batters. Gandy Stubblefield would then come in for two innings of work giving up three earned runs and striking out three. Kevin Roy came in for the ninth inning and struck out one batter in the frame.

The team will now be off for the All Star Break. The following players were named TCL All Stars. Gandy Stubblefield, Dirk Masters, Kevin Santana, Brian Smith, Conner Fikes, Matt Danton, Ricky Sanchez, Alexis Garza and Daniel Homann. Homann will not be able to attend the event so Garza took his spot. The Strykers start play again on Thursday and Friday against the Cane Cutters in Youngsville, Louisiana before returning home next Saturday and Sunday to take on the Victoria Generals.
