Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic welcomed Jamaican Premier League Champions Portmore United FC to Dillon Stadium on Saturday. The game was officially an exhibition but was anything but as both sides were passionately looking to score. Hartford were the first to score in the first half as Harry Swartz shimmied his way through the opposing defense to brilliantly lay off the perfect pass for Mac Steves to tap home. Hartford entered the intermission a goal up. Portmore fought back in the 2nd half as former USL player Andre Lewis converted a PK followed by a 25-yard rifle courtesy of Rondee Smith. The game ended 2-1 in the visitor's favor.
While soccer took center stage, tonight's match was an incredible showing of pride from the Jamaican community. Reggae group Hunnae Brandy & the Makka contributed to the friendly ambience performing in the stadium before kick-off to get everyone attending in the mood. A portion of ticket proceeds were given to the West Indian Foundation. Although a loss on the day for Hartford, it was a win for the Hartford and Jamaican communities alike. Thus ends our inaugural season, we hope to see you all back at Dillon in 2020!
