FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB - Striker Easton Ongaro will return to FC Edmonton for the 2021 season, the club announced today.

The Edmonton native had been on loan with Vendsyssel FF (VFF) since early October, a club that currently competes in the Danish First Division, the second tier of Danish professional football. As part of the loan agreement, VFF had the option to sign the 22 year-old to a contract by December 31, but the club declined to exercise its transfer option, prompting Ongaro's return to his hometown club.

"We didn't make the decision lightly," said Ingo Winter, the Managing Director of Football for VFF's ownership group, Core Sports Capital. Winter continued, "Easton showed his potential especially in December, scoring two goals. He always behaved in an exemplary manner and fought for his spot in the team. However, we have generally decided to rebuild the team after our poor sporting performance in the previous round, so we will change the personnel in the attacking line. We thank Easton for his time here and wish him only the best."

In two seasons with FC Edmonton, Ongaro has scored a total of 13 goals in 29 appearances for the club in all competitions, including three at the CPL's 2020 Island Games. He also scored 10 goals in just 16 matches of the CPL's 2019 Fall Season.

"Easton has grown significantly through his time in the CPL and has also been able to develop further through his first professional experience in Europe," said FC Edmonton Head Coach, Alan Koch. "I look forward to working with him and seeing how far we can take his game. He scores goals, and so we are really excited to start working with him and all his teammates to help set us up for success in the final third. It was very promising to see him score a few goals at the end of his loan spell in Denmark, and hopefully he can build from this in our pre-season."

Regarding his time in Demark, Ongaro said, "I would like to thank VFF for the opportunity to get my first experience playing in Europe, but now it is time to shift focus to an important 2021 season with FC Edmonton. I am happy to be back home and I am looking forward to getting back with the squad. We have a lot to prove as a club, and I know everyone here is ready for the challenge."

Ongaro played his youth football with Inter Soccer Club of Edmonton. He was selected 15th overall by

Calvary FC in the 2018 CPL-U SPORTS Draft, but opted instead to sign a full professional contract with FC Edmonton. Ongaro spent two seasons with the University of Alberta Golden Bears and led the Canada West Conference in goals with 16 in 14 matches during the 2018 season.

Deposits on season Memberships for the 2021 CPL season are currently available for $20.21. Fans are encouraged to visit https://fcedmonton.canpl.ca/ or call 780-700-2600 for more information.
