TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed free agent wide receiver Terrill Shaw and quarterback B. J. Symons, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
Shaw, a 6-foot-0, 190-pound wide receiver/defensive back from Southern Mississippi is a seven-year veteran of the Arena Football League. This past season he led the Dallas Desperados with 111 receptions, setting a Desperados single-season record and was 12th in the league. He also set Desperados single-season records with 1,498 reception yards and 37 touchdowns in 2006. Shaw was named the AFL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4 when he set the single-game team record with 208 receiving yards along with four touchdowns on 11 receptions.
In 2001, Shaw earned ArenaBowl MVP honors as he set an ArenaBowl record with five touchdowns and tied an ArenaBowl record with 12 receptions while leading the Grand Rapids Rampage to the ArenaBowl XV championship. He has 437 receptions for 5,832 yards and 126 touchdowns in his AFL career.
Symons, a 6-0, 200-pound quarterback is a record setting college quarterback out of Texas Tech. He won the Sammy Baugh Award as a senior in 2003, given annually to the nation's top passer. He set NCAA single-season records for passing yards 5,833, most 400-yard games in total offense with nine, most yards in total offense 5,976, most passing yards per game 448.79 and most yards in total offense per game 459.69.
He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the seventh round, 248th overall, at the 2004 NFL Draft, played with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe in the spring of 2005. He returned to the Texans in 2005 but was released after training camp and signed with the Chicago Bears who allocated him to the NFL Europe's Berlin Thunder for 2006. This past season in Berlin he completed 31 of 66 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns while rushing eight times for 23 yards and one touchdown.
