TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm has activated quarterback Chris Dixon, announced vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.
"Chris is a professional that fits the mold of the type of player that the Tampa Bay Storm looks for," said Gooch. "He has several years of indoor experience and has played on championship teams. We believe he will elevate the level of play on the field."
Dixon (5-foot-11, 205 lbs., Humboldt) joins Tampa Bay for his first season in a Storm uniform. Dixon split the 2013 season with the Orlando Predators and New Orleans VooDoo. He appeared in 12 games (3-Orlando and 9-New Orleans), making four starts for the VooDoo. In 12 games played, Dixon completed 110-of-181 passes for 1,516 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also rushed 48 times for 258 yards and 10 touchdowns. Dixon is also a former three-time Indoor Football League MVP and a five-time IFL champion, winning three championships with the Billings Outlaws (2009, 2010, and 2011) and two with the Sioux Falls Storm (2012 and 2014). He has thrown for over 500 touchdowns in his professional career.
The team also acquired defensive lineman Julius Forte and defensive back Randall Burden.
"The team is happy to have both Julius and Randall on the team," said Gooch. "They have playmaking ability and will be assets to the team."
Forte (6-foot-1, 257 lbs., South Florida), a St. Petersburg native, enters his first season in the Arena Football League with the Storm. The Boca Ciega H.S. product started in 6-of-43 games for the Bulls. For his collegiate career, he recorded 63.0 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He posted his first career interception versus Miami in his senior season and returned it 11 yards for a touchdown.
Burden (6-foot-2, 183 lbs., Kentucky) begins his rookie season with the Storm. The former Wildcat played four seasons for Kentucky, starting in 35-of-50 games. In four seasons he posted 117 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions and 23 passes defended. He returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown in a game versus University of Louisiana at Monroe.
The team reassigned quarterback Stephen Garcia. Garcia saw action in one game, completing a pass for six yards.
Storm defensive back De'Audra Dix was reassigned. Dix started in 3-of-7 games for the Storm this season and recorded 23 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception. He was also third on the team with 11 pass breakups.
Defensive lineman Quincy Barr was reassigned. Barr appeared in one game for the Storm. He tallied 1.5 tackles.
The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm enters its 27th season in the Arena Football League. The Storm will host "Fan Appreciation Night" Saturday, July 26 when it takes on the Cleveland Gladiators, on AMALIE Motor Oil Field at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
