Storm secures Hispanic radio deal

TAMPA BAY - Palace Sports & Entertainment, in conjunction with Nuevo Advertising Group of Sarasota, has reached an agreement to broadcast all Tampa Bay Storm home games during the 2005 Arena Football League season on Rumba 680 AM (WRMD), it was announced by Ron Campbell, president of the St. Pete Times Forum and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Additionally, Nuevo Advertising Group has been retained to assist with the Hispanic marketing efforts for the five-time ArenaBowl champions, Campbell announced.

"We are pleased to be able to offer world championship caliber arena football to Hispanic sports fans in the Tampa Bay region via Rumba 680 AM," said St. Pete Times Forum President Ron Campbell. "We are always trying to expand our reach in the community and we are pleased to be able to broaden our fan base in this way. Hopefully this is the beginning of a long-term initiative and commitment to a significant and important sector of the Tampa Bay region."

Pedro Perez, VP Sales & Marketing for Nuevo Advertising, said, "The managers of The St. Pete Times Forum were interested in opening up new opportunities within the Hispanic market. It's something they had been considering for awhile, and we're thrilled to be assisting with their advertising and public relations needs in this exciting market."

Rumba 680 AM can be heard throughout the Tampa Bay area and is a music-driven radio station featuring many styles and rhythms. The broadcast team of Neil Fernandez and Enrique Oliu will call the action during eight home games for Storm fans this season. Fernandez formerly served as the Spanish voice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1999-2002, while Oliu has provided color commentary for Spanish broadcasts of Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Devil Rays games.

The Storm open the 2005 season vs. the 2004 ArenaBowl Champion San Jose SaberCats on Sunday, January 30 at the St. Pete Times Forum (3 p.m.). The Storm reached the AFL playoffs for the 14th consecutive season in 2004, thanks to six consecutive wins to close the season.

Neil Fernandez

A seasoned radio personality, Neil has worked in the Tampa Bay radio market since 1997. He is best known for his long tenure with Mega Communications (1998-2005) where he served in various positions on Mega 820 AM. Most recently, he hosted the station's mid-day show where he consistently set new standards in Spanish radio for Tampa and achieved higher ratings than most afternoon drives. Neil is also well remembered for having served as the official voice in Spanish of The Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1999-2002.

Enrique Oliu

A friendly and well-known Spanish sports voice in the Tampa Bay area, Enrique has endured in many different areas and achieved the highest accolades for his service. From covering The Tampa Bay Mutiny to commentating for the Tampa Devil Rays and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Enrique has gotten it done. His name is synonymous with "The Human Encyclopedia" as he possesses an uncanny ability to remember statistical data from all sports, all athletes, at any given time. Fox Sports, ESPN, and other major networks have used Enrique's services.
