TAMPA, FL - The San Jose SabereCats (3-0, 0-0) defeated he Tampa Bay Storm (1-2, 0-0) Friday evening, 36-27, at the Amalie Arena. The Storm's 20-point rally in the fourth quarter fell short.
Storm quarterback Jason Boltus completed 21-of-39 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns. Boltus' favorite targets were wide receivers T.T. Toliver and Kendrick Ings. Toliver caught six passes for 81 yards and one touchdown and Ings led all receivers with eight catches for 100 yards and three TDs.
Toliver became only the fourth player in Arena Football League history to record 1,000 career receptions when he gathered in a 9-yard pass from Boltus with 4:21 remaining in the second quarter. He was named the games' J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game Award, had the Cutter Catch of the Game and had AFL highlights of the game distinction.
Toliver joins current Storm head coach Lawrence Samuels, as the one of only two players in franchise history to achieve the plateau.
