Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm hosted their final open tryout for the 2008 season on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Skyway Park in Tampa, Florida. The players were tested in the 40-yard dash, standing long jump, two shuttle-runs and participated in individual positions drills.

Head Coach Tim Marcum and his staff evaluated 100 potential players whose experience ranged from the high school level to those who played in the National Football League. "I thought the tryout went well," said Marcum. "The guys showed a lot of enthusiasm and ability."

The players not only had the eyes of the Storm coaching staff watching and evaluating but the eyes of several other indoor teams as well. Coaches and front office personnel from the Arkansas Twisters (af2), Austin Wranglers (af2), Daytona ThunderBirds (af2), Florida Firecats (af2), Florida Stingrays (AIFA) and the Huntington Heroes (AIFA) were on hand to scout and evaluate future players. Additionally, several current Storm players were on hand to help provide individual instruction and to provide helpful tips.

While a majority of the players came from Florida, many traveled from as far as Pennsylvania and Washington to show off their talent in hopes of earning a professional football contract.

"I think the day was a success," added Marcum. "We came away with a fullback and several other players that we want to keep an eye on and track their progress. The season is a long one and we saw enough guys to keep our Director of Player Personnel busy this upcoming season."

The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to next season as a strong nucleus returns from the 2007 playoff contender. AFL Co-Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie quarterback Brett Dietz, All-Ironman Lawrence Samuels, record setting fullback Torrance Marshall and touchdown-leading wide receiver Terrill Shaw, among others will be back to take the 2008 AFL season by storm.
