Storm Bulks up Defensive Line

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm has acquired defensive lineman Ishmyl Johnson, announced vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.

"Ishmyl is a big body that we feel will help solidify the defensive line," said Gooch. "He has the ability to have an immediate impact on the team."

Johnson (6-5, 325 lbs., Michigan State) enters his rookie season in the Arena Football League with the Storm. Johnson played for Michigan State before transferring to Benedict College. He appeared in 10 games for the Benedict Tigers, while starting in three. In 10 games played, Johnson recorded 20 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. He has experience in other indoor football leagues.

The team reassigned defensive lineman Rashad Dukes and wide receiver Chris Slaughter. Dukes played in one game with the Storm, recording a tackle and fumble recovery. Slaughter did not see any action.

The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm enters its 27th season in the Arena Football League. The Storm will host "Fan Appreciation Night" Saturday, July 26 when it takes on the Cleveland Gladiators, on AMALIE Motor Oil Field at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
