Tampa Bay Storm News Release
Tampa Bay - The Tampa Bay Storm have acquired fullback Thor Merrow, wide receiver Prechae Rodriguez and offensive lineman Brad Serini announced head coach Dave Ewart.
"Thor and Brad are two hard working, blue-collar players," said Ewart. "Those are definitely attributes we are looking for as we continue to build our roster for the 2012 season. Prechae not only has size, he has speed and can jump out of a gym. We are excited to add all three players to the roster."
Merrow (6-foot-1, 250 lbs., North Alabama) saw time at fullback, tight end and on the defensive line during his collegiate career. He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent in the spring of 2011 where his father, Jeff, played for nine seasons as a defensive end. Merrow spent his first two years in college at West Virginia (2006-07) prior to transferring to North Alabama (2008-10) and playing for Terry Bowden.
Rodriguez (6-5, 215, Auburn) spent the past four seasons (2008-11) in the Canadian Football League. Rodriguez was named the 2008 East Division Most Outstanding Rookie and recorded 158 catches for 2,098 yards and 12 touchdowns during his time in the CFL.
The former Jefferson H.S. (Tampa) standout appeared in 36 games for the Auburn Tigers and recorded 38 receptions for 530 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to attending Auburn, Prechae was named one of the top JUCO receivers in the nation as he caught 39 passes for 553 yards with two touchdowns and helped lead Coffeyville Junior College to a 10-2 record and No. 3 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll.
Serini (6-3, 315, Florida International) started all four seasons (2007-10) for the FIU Panthers at center. He was named to the Rimington Award (nations best center) watch list each of his final three seasons and owns the FIU career record for consecutive starts (49 games), the only player in school history to start every game in their career. The leader and anchor of the Panthers offensive line, the unit led the Sun Belt Conference in fewest sacks allowed and was second in the conference in rushing yards per game during his senior season. He was a three-time all-conference selection at center for the Panthers.
The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm celebrates its 25th season in the AFL. The 2012 Season home opener is Friday, March 16 versus South Division rival Georgia Force.
