Storm Activate Bendross, Smith

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have activated Offensive Specialist Demetris Bendross and Defensive Specialist Leroy Smith, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.

Bendross, a 5-foot-8, 180-pound Florida A&M University graduate, is in his second season with the Storm. He appeared in three games with Tampa Bay last season and made 13 receptions for 212 yards and five touchdowns. He scored a touchdown on his first career reception in his AFL debut against the New Orleans VooDoo in 2005, a 39-yard pass from Shane Stafford.

Smith, a Florida State University graduate, will be making his AFL debut. The 5-10, 190-pound defensive back signed with the Storm after a brief stint with the Chicago Bears in 2005. Smith finished his career at Tallahassee appearing in 45 games with 16 career starts (2000-04). As a defensive back he accumulated 80 tackles, six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and 25 passes defended.

Offensive specialist Freddie Solomon (foot) and defensive specialist Tramain Jones (neck) have been placed on injured reserve. Solomon in two games this season has 10 receptions for 174 yards and one touchdown. Jones leads the team in tackles with 16.5 (12 solo, 9 assists), one tackle for a loss and one pass breakup.
