Storm Acquire OL Lincoln Kennedy
April 2, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have acquired offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy from the Dallas Desperados, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
"With injuries to our offensive line, we needed to get another lineman," said Marcum. "Lincoln is an experienced lineman and will have an opportunity to play for us. We need to make sure we give Stoney time to throw."
Kennedy, a 6-foot-7, 350-pound lineman out of the University of Washington is an Arena Football League rookie. He spent the first four weeks of the season on the Desperados' injured reserve after breaking a finger on his right hand in training camp. The former first-round draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons (ninth overall pick of the 1993 National Football League Draft), spent 11 seasons in the NFL. He spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Falcons before being traded to the Oakland Raiders. He spent eight seasons with the Raiders where he was a Pro-Bowl selection in 2001 and 2002.
A speech and drama major in college, Kennedy took a position with the NFL Network as an analyst for NFL Total Access after retiring from the NFL in 2004. On January 23, 2007, he signed with the Desperados.
A former All-American at the University of Washington, Kennedy was an anchor of the Huskies team that went undefeated in 1991 and won the national championship. He was a four-year letterman, three-year starter and finalist for the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award as a senior.
In other transactions, the Storm re-signed quarterback John Kaleo prior to the team's trip out to San Jose. Additionally, the Storm signed wide receiver Hank Edwards (6-3, 190, Texas Southern) and defensive back Traco Rachel (6-2, 200, Texas A&M-Commerce) to the practice squad.
The 2007 Storm season, presented by Champs Sports, Where Sports Lives, returns to the St. Pete Times Forum this Saturday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. as the Tampa Bay Storm take on division rival New Orleans VooDoo. For ticket information call 813.301.6780 or visit www.tampabaystorm.com.
