TAMPA, Fla. - The Stone Crabs managed just four hits against Tampa Yankees pitching Saturday, falling 5-0 at Steinbrenner Field. Charlotte (14-15) picked up just one hit after the third inning as Tampa (12-18) evened the series with their second shutout of the year. Yankees starter Taylor Widener (1-3) allowed three hits over five scoreless innings before Jose Mesa fanned five batters in three perfect innings of relief. After Tampa first baseman Chris Gittens reach on an error in the bottom of the second, Nick Solak doubled him home to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Gittens then homered with one out in the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0. Two batters later, Solak singled ahead of Jhalen Jackson who doubled him home to make it 3-0. The Yankees added two runs against Stone Crabs reliever Joe Serrapica to cap the scoring at 5-0. Charlotte starter Eduar Lopez (2-3) took the loss after giving up two earned runs over five innings. The bright spot was Stone Crabs lefty Greg Maisto, who fanned three hitters in 1.1 shutout innings of relief. The rubber game of the three-game series takes place Sunday at 1p.m. Genesis Cabrera (2-3, 4.03) goes for Charlotte against Zack Littell (1-1, 1.71) of Tampa.
