PORT CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte Stone Crabs found the run they needed in the ninth inning to take care of business on Tuesday, edging out a 3-2 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium.

Mikie Mahtook scored the eventual winning run when Fort Myers failed to double up Phil Wunderlich on a ground ball to second base in the final frame.

The win sealed the deal on a solid start from Enny Romero, who completed at least six innings for the third time in four starts, allowing two runs on seven scattered hits while striking out four and walking two.

The Charlotte bats struck first when Robby Price led off the game with a single, and Hector Guevara doubled off the left field wall to give the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead.

Fort Myers answered in the bottom half when Dan Rohlfing singled in Jairo Perez to tie the game.

The Stone Crabs took yet another lead in the fourth inning. A red-hot Derek Dietrich extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double to lead off the frame. Later in the inning, Steven Tinoco plated Dietrich with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1.

The back-and-forth game continued when Levi Michael drew the Miracle level again with a sacrifice fly of his own in the bottom of the fifth.

Fort Myers threatened to take their first lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. After putting two men on with one out, Anderson Hidalgo hit a single to right field, but Charlotte caught the lead runner Oswaldo Arcia in a rundown between third and home to keep the game tied, 2-2.

Stone Crabs reliever Victor Mateo then gave way to C.J. Riefenhauser (5-0), who needed just three pitches - all curveballs - to strike out Michael Gonzales. The punchout earned Riefenhauser the win, placing him in a tie for second in the Florida State League.

Charlotte will look to lock down a victory of the four-game series against Fort Myers Wednesday at Hammond Stadium. Right-hander Albert Suarez takes the mound for the Stone Crabs, while the Miracle will hand the ball to Jhon Garcia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
