STONE CRABS SHUT DOWN 6-1 MONDAY

The Stone Crabs were shut down by Bradenton starter Cody Bolton Monday, dropping the first game of the series with the Marauders 6-1. Bolton held Charlotte to two hits over five innings. The Marauders rallied for five runs on six hits in the fourth inning, which put the game out of reach.

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST?

Despite scoring three runs or less in four of their five games this year, the Stone Crabs have shown signs of being a strong offensive club. Charlotte ranks third in the Florida State League in batting average and is second in the circuit in doubles. The low run totals can be attributed to a lack of clutch hitting. The Stone Crabs have a .624 OPS with runners on base, well below their .659 mark for the year.

DON'T MESS WITH THE BREW-HAN

Stone Crabs second baseman Vidal Brujan collected another hit and two stolen bases on Monday and is now batting .409 through the first five games. The Dominican Republic native is tied with the Miracle's Royce Lewis for the league lead with four steals after swiping 55 in 2018. That total ranked second in Minor League Baseball, behind only Myles Straw of the Astros.

BREAKFAST AND BASEBALL

The Stone Crabs will play two morning games over the next six days, with 10:30 a.m. starts scheduled for Wednesday in Bradenton and Sunday in Port Charlotte. The Stone Crabs went 0-3 in games starting before noon in 2018. Charlotte will play another 10:30 a.m. game in Bradenton on June 12, and have a total of five morning games on the schedule in 2019.

CRABBY CONTACT

The Stone Crabs struck out a stunning 19 times in Sunday's 2-1 win over Fort Myers. Charlotte has now struck out 57 times through the first five games, the third highest total in the circuit.

THE SHORTSTOP WALL OF CHARLOTTE

The Stone Crabs added shortstop Taylor Walls to their roster Monday, assigning Jake Palomaki to extended spring training. The Rays' third round pick in 2017, Walls starred for three years at Florida State. Named a First Team All-American in 2016, the Georgia native finished second in the Midwest League in runs scored (87) in 2018, as well as third in hits (142) and fifth in AVG (.304) and OBP (.393).Walls led Low-A Bowling Green in runs, hits and walks (66) while ranking second in doubles (28), stolen bases (31), AVG, OBP and games played (120).
