Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE -- After seeing an early lead disappear, the Charlotte Stone Crabs walked off with a 5-4 win over the St. Lucie Mets, completing a three-game sweep at Charlotte Sports Park on Sunday.

Kevin Kiermaier's bases-loaded single to deep left field scored Riccio Torrez for the winning run.

With the loss, the Mets suffered their first three-game sweep of the season. Meanwhile, the Stone Crabs picked up a big win on a day of the week that has not been kind to them. It was just their second victory in 17 tries on Sundays this year.

Albert Suarez started for Charlotte and threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits in the second inning and retiring 15 of the 17 men he faced.

The Stone Crabs built their early lead with three runs in the first inning. The first three men reached base, culminating in Todd Glaesmann's RBI single. Torrez then reached on an error by the third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez scoring another run. Cody Rogers bounced into a double play to make it 3-0.

St. Lucie was happy to to see Suarez leave the game, and immediately jumped on reliever Chris Andujar in the sixth. Richard Lucas hit a 2-run single to cap the 3-run frame, pulling the Mets within one run.

The Mets tied it in the top of the eighth when a Matt Nevarez pitch got away from Luke Bailey for a passed ball. Danny Muno came home from third to knot things up, 4-4.

Robby Price continued his hot hitting for Charlotte, collecting three more hits to give him 16 in his last nine games, good for a .432 average during that span.

Rehabbing Rays designated hitter Luke Scott served in that capacity for Charlotte and collected two hits as well, while walking twice.

The Stone Crabs will enjoy an off-day Monday before hitting the road to begin a six-game road trip. It begins with three contests against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Lefty Braulio Lara is slated to start Tuesday for Charlotte. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
