Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

JUPITER -- Despite an outstanding start from Enny Romero, the Charlotte Stone Crabs were unable to draw even in their series against the Jupiter Hammerheads on Saturday.

The Hammerheads used four pitchers to toss the club's seventh shut-out of the season, blanking the Stone Crabs by a 2-0 final score.

Romero's gem was undone in the third inning when he issued a two-out walk to J.T. Realmuto, who scored on a Ryan Fisher single two batters later.

After that hit, Romero settled in to set down the next 12 men in a row. Rehabbing Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton snapped that string with a towering solo homer to left in the sixth inning.

Romero (4-6) worked seven innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out four. This marked the first time since June 18 in which Romero walked fewer than four batters, a span of seven appearances.

Charlotte's offense had numerous opportunities to scratch across runs, but Adam Conley (3-2) struck out six men and stayed one step ahead over the first five innings to earn the victory. Conley allowed six hits and watched his defense commit three errors during his start.

The Hammerheads bullpen was in full effect over the final four frames. Tyler Higgins provided two scoreless innings before giving way to Scott McGough, a righty reliever who was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Hanley Ramirez trade.

After McGough tossed a blank eighth inning, Jupiter closer Michael Brady picked up his second save in as many days by finishing Charlotte in the ninth. The Hammerheads have now won four consecutive games against the Stone Crabs.

That victory also allowed Jupiter to move into first place all alone in the Florida State League South Division second half standings. They hold a slim half-game lead over both the Bradenton Marauders and Palm Beach Cardinals.

Stanton served as the designated hitter on Saturday, finishing 1-for-4 and belting the second home run of his current rehab assignment. He was upbeat following his third game with Jupiter, and hopeful to join the Marlins as they open a series against the New York Mets on Tuesday at Citi Field.

"It feels good. Better than I expected," said Stanton of his right knee. "We're right on path to have one more game here and then meet the [Marlins] on the road."

Stanton has been on the disabled list since July 8 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The series concludes on Sunday as the Stone Crabs send right-hander Victor Mateo to the mound in hopes of salvaging the finale. Highly touted Marlins prospect Jose Fernandez makes the start for the Hammerheads. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
