Stockton Kings News Release
Today, the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, Kaiser Permanente and Second Harvest of the Greater Valley, announced the launch of "Kings 209 Pantry" to provide fresh produce, perishable and non-perishable goods to underserved neighborhoods. This collaborative effort is part of a multi-year partnership between the Stockton Kings and Kaiser Permanente to positively impact the community through health and wellness programs and healthy food donation events - all designed to build a stronger, healthier and more resilient region.
"The Stockton Kings are committed to addressing food insecurity in our community," said Stockton Kings Vice President of Business Operations Aaron Morales. "We are proud to partner with Kaiser Permanente and Second Harvest of the Greater Valley to ensure Stockton and the surrounding communities have the nourishment they need to thrive."
"Everyone needs and deserves access to healthy food," said Kaiser Permanente Central Valley Director of Public Affairs Deborah Pitts. "Kaiser Permanente is proud to join with the Stockton Kings and Second Harvest in our shared mission to improve the health of our community and help ensure more residents have access to the food they need to lead active and healthy lives."
"Second Harvest is proud to partner with the Stockton Kings and Kaiser Permanente to continue feeding tummies and providing hope," said Second Harvest of the Greater Valley Director of Development Jessica Vaughan. "Now, more than ever, our services are necessary for our school partners to receive food to provide their students and families."
In Fall 2021, the Stockton Kings and Kaiser Permanente launched a multi-year effort to fight hunger in San Joaquin County through distributions at local community sites. At each distribution site, fresh produce, perishable and non-perishable goods will be given to families who face barriers to nearby grocery stores, limited budgets, and/or health/disability issues. The Stockton Kings and Kaiser Permanente will continue to host donation drives throughout the 2022-23 season.
The first "Kings 209 Pantry" distribution will take place at Family Resource Center on Tuesday, May 10. The event will include a speaking portion followed by the drive-thru distribution, which is expected to serve 400-600 families.
