
Stockton Clinches Series With 7-4 Win Over Bakersfield

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder (7-2) defeated the Bakersfield Condors (4-6) 7-4 at Stockton Arena in Game 5 of the National Conference Semifinals Saturday night. Stockton takes the series 4-1 and will advance to the National Conference Finals for the first time in their team history, while Bakersfield finishes their season in the second round of the postseason for the third time in five years.
Stockton opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game. C Chris D'Alvise finished off a rush with his sixth goal of the postseason. The Condors responded to even the score while shorthanded. F Andrew Ianiero found F Mark Voakes for a one-timer off of a 2-on-1 with 6:07 remaining in the first period. The Thunder took a 2-1 lead with 2:16 left in the first period on a goal by LW Matt Marquardt. After 20 minutes, Stockton out-shot Bakersfield 11-10.
The Thunder grabbed a 3-1 lead on a goal by LW Garet Hunt at 2:47 of the second period. F Stephane Goulet cut the lead to 3-2, completing a perfect feed from RW Ryan Menei, 3:22 into the middle frame. Bakersfield and Stockton continued their uptempo play in the second period, but yielded no more goals. Shots were 21-21 after two periods.
Stockton broke the game open early in the third period, getting goals from LW Igor Gongalsky, RW Colin Hemingway and D Steve Vanoosten in the first 8:10 for a 6-2 lead. Ianiero cut the lead to 6-3 by directing a LW Kyle Calder shot past G Andrew Perugini. With Pielmeier pulled for an extra-attacker, Vanoosten scored shorthanded to make it a 7-3 lead with 4:35 remaining in the third period. C MacGregor Sharp finished the scoring with 4:56 left in the game for a 7-4 final.
