The South Carolina Stingrays announce the official theme for the Kelly Cup Playoffs 2009. The "White-Out" will begin April 14, 2009 as the Stingrays take on the Charlotte Checkers at the North Charleston Coliseum in game 3 of the first round, best of 7 game series.

Exclusive playoff t-shirts are on sale now through the front office and at every Playoff Home game for $15. Fans are encouraged to wear white to the games in support of the Rays. SECOND SEASON SUB-PLOTS

The South Carolina Stingrays get set for their best-of-seven game series against the Charlotte Checkers starting tomorrow night at 7:00 in Charlotte.

The Stingrays enter the playoffs for the 15th time in 16 years. Their 15 playoff appearances are most ever in the ECHL.

In 16 games against the Charlotte Checkers this regular season, the Rays are 10-5-0-1.

THE REST ON THE QUEST

Five of the 16 teams in the Kelly Cup Playoffs have won the Kelly Cup - Alaska, Cincinnati, Idaho, South Carolina and Trenton - while Charlotte won the Riley Cup in 1996 which was the last season it was the trophy presented to the ECHL champion.

Cincinnati is the defending champion and one of only three teams to win both the Brabham Cup, the trophy awarded to the regular season champion and the Kelly Cup in the same season.

The Kelly Cup Playoffs kick off tomorrow night with the Rays taking on Charlotte and Wheeling taking on Cincinnati.

The Florida Everblades finished the year with 103 points, most in the ECHL, giving them the Brabham Cup.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

During the 1996-1997 season the South Carolina Stingrays won the first ever Kelly Cup, which had just replaced the Riley Cup presented to the ECHL champion. That year the Rays finished with a record of 45-15-10, good for 100 points, most in the ECHL. This marked the first time that a team had won the Brabham Cup, the trophy for the team with the most points, as well as the trophy awarded to the ECHL champion. With the help of defenseman Jared Bednar, the South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Louisiana Ice Gators in five games.
