Charlotte Sting News Release

(CHARLOTTE) July 13, 2006, - The Charlotte Sting, Susan G. Komen Foundation and Presbyterian Healthcare have partnered to create Rim of Hope: a celebration of breast cancer survivors and breast health awareness for the Saturday, June 22 Sting game vs. the Phoenix Mercury.

"The goal of Rim of Hope is to celebrate the great women and their loved ones who have survived breast cancer as well as raise awareness of the disease that affects one in every eight women," said LaRita Barber, senior vice president of community relations and player development. "What better way to celebrate good health and promote breast health awareness than at a WNBA game where women are competing at the very top level."

Attendees of the July 22 Rim of Hope game are encouraged to wear pink to celebrate breast cancer survivors and generate awareness of the disease. Pink ribbons will be distributed to fans at the door, survivors will participate in special pre-game ceremony and Sting player Helen Darling, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, will welcome the crowd.

Rim of Hope partners, Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Presbyterian Cancer Center will have a presence at the game, providing coupons for free mammograms, an interactive health care area for kids, t-shirts and educational information about breast cancer.

Fans are also encouraged to send messages of hope to the countless people touched by breast cancer every day. Messages will be collected at www.CharlotteSting.com and displayed at the game.

Each year the Charlotte Sting participate in the WNBA's Breast Health Awareness program to generate awareness and educate women on what can be done to fight breast cancer in addition to raising funds for the initiative. The WNBA and its teams have raised nearly $2,000,000 to aid in the fight against breast cancer.
