Sting sign Seller to one year contract
October 5, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Wednesday the signing of defenseman Chris Seller to a one-year contract.
"This is a great signing for our club," said Coach Hamley. "When we got Chris from Anaheim mid-way through last year, he really added some scoring punch to our defense. He's a great defender with a lot of speed that bolsters our transition game. He really helped us down the stretch and in the playoffs last year."
Seller was acquired from the Anaheim Storm on March 9, 2005 in exchange for Bill Greer and two conditional draft picks. The 6'2", 195 lb. native of Richmond, British Columbia, played in the 2005 NLL All-Star Game in Calgary, registering an assist as a member of the West Division All-Stars.
In 8 regular games with the Sting in 2005, Seller scored 3 goals and added 2 assists. Combined with his stats in Anaheim, the 28-year old had 15 points (7G-8A) on the season. In the playoffs, Seller had an assist to go along with his 2 goals, both of which came in the Champion's Cup Final against the Toronto Rock. While Arizona wasn't quite able to capture the first league title in franchise history last season, Seller feels that the 2006 incarnation of the Sting will be in a favorable position to repeat as West Division Champions and get another shot at bringing an NLL championship back to the desert.
"It's nice to get the business side of things taken care of early so I can focus on training camp and the season ahead," Seller said from his home in British Columbia on Wednesday. "Bob (Hamley) has done a great job in keeping the nucleus of guys together that were so successful a year ago as well as bringing in some fresh faces that will definitely help us once again compete for the title."
In 83 career NLL games, Chris Seller has 37 goals and 45 assists for 82 points as a member of the Buffalo Bandits, Anaheim Storm, and Arizona Sting.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in the Valley, the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 record, winning the Western Division playoffs before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final.
