Saginaw Sting News Release
(March 8, 2011 Saginaw, MI) - The Saginaw Sting are very please to announce the signing of local Midland star John Jacobs. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Jacobs, a 2005 Dow High School graduate, is known for his ability to change direction quickly and track down the ball carrier. In his final season at SVSU last fall, Jacobs had 149 total tackles, leading all of Division II for the second straight year in that category. A co-captain, he helped the Cardinals to a 9-3 record and a berth in the Division II playoffs, and was named to the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches' All-America Team.
Former Dow High coach Kurt Faust said Jacobs can make adjustments during a play as well as anyone. "Even when he's wrong, he'll end up being right," Faust said. "You'll want to yell at him, and at the same time you're high-fiving him for a tremendous play." Sting coach John Mize stated, "our defense just got better, we had some concerns at the linebacker position the first two games but they are now gone"!
The Sting are enjoying a nice start to their 2011 season, winning their first two games. Many sting players are ranked in many statistical categories thus far. The Sting organization also leads the leagues in balls that go into the stands for their fans with 63 balls a game going into the stands. This week's competitor, the Huntington Hammer will be a big test for the Sting. Kickoff is at 4:00 pm this Sunday March 13, 2011.
