Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Monday the signing of free agent defenseman Greg Hinman to a one-year contract.
"We are very pleased to be adding Greg to our roster," Hamley said on Monday. "He is a speedy defender with a scoring touch that we feel can be of great asset to our team. We hope that he can add another dimension to our defensive unit by using his quickness effectively in transition."
The 5'10", 181 lb. native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, is expected to compete for a spot in the Sting's starting lineup at their upcoming training camp in Hagersville, Ontario. A newcomer to the National Lacrosse League, Hinman played for the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the Western Lacrosse Association this past summer alongside Sting players Craig Conn and Chris Seller. In 16 games for the Salmonbellies, Hinman scored 7 goals to go along with 26 assists and 18 penalty minutes as the team finished third in the WLA's Senior âA' division.
The 22-year old Hinman will be in tough to earn a starting job with the defending NLL West Division Champions, as the Sting already boast a solid defensive core that includes team captain and All-Star Peter Lough, top scorer Scott Self, seasoned veteran Mark Cochrane, and newly acquired enforcer Bruce Murray, who spent last season with the Anaheim Storm.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in the Valley, the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 record, winning the Western Division playoffs before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final.
