Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Friday the signing of defenseman Bruce Codd to a one-year contract.

"It's really great to be bringing Bruce back," Hamley said. "I can't say enough good things about him as a person and as a player. The younger guys really look up to him, and he brings a lot of leadership to the locker room in addition to his excellent ability and hard work on the floor."

Last season was Codd's second in Arizona. He played in all 16 regular season games, registering 14 points (3G-11A) to go along with 10 penalty minutes. His 97 loose balls tied him with Peter Lough for the most on the team. In the playoffs, Codd led the Sting in loose balls, tallying 25 in his 3 games. The 27-year old also contributed a goal and four assists during Arizona's run to the Champion's Cup Final.

"I'm very excited about coming back to the Sting," Codd said from his home in Ontario on Thursday. "Bob (Hamley) has done a good job of keeping the core of last year's team together while adding some new guys that should help us out. We should be in good shape to make another run at the title."

Codd currently has 25G-72A-97P in 72 career NLL games. The upcoming season will be the 5'10", 155 lb. defender's seventh in the league. A well-traveled veteran, Codd has made stops in Albany, Columbus, Montreal, Ottawa, and Arizona during his career. The Orangeville, Ontario, native's most offensively productive season came in 2002, when he registered 45 points (9G-36A) and 197 loose balls as a member of the Montreal Express. The Sting signed Codd as a free agent in 2003.

Originally drafted in the 9th round (66th overall) by the Albany Attack in the 1999 NLL Entry Draft, Codd won back-to-back Minto Cups in 1995 and 1996 as a member of the Orangeville Northmen of the Ontario Junior Lacrosse Association. He also won a Mann Cup 2002 as a member of the Brampton Excelsiors.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 regular season with a 9-7 record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
